GENERAL SAFETY AND REGULATIONS IN THE WORKSHOP

  •   Instructional staffs are to give all courses a full Safety Brief at the commencement of each course.
  •  Main Gangways are the only thoroughfare in the Workshops.
  •  Skylarking or practical joking in the Workshop is forbidden.
  •  Service overalls are to be worn at all times, fully fastened and in good state of repair. Sleeves are to be secured at the wrist.
  •   Jewellery as far as practicable should not be worn in the Workshop.
  •  Food or drink is prohibited in the workshops.
  •   Student with long hair are to ensure their hair is tied back and clear of their face when in the Workshop and prior to operating machinery.
  •  Grade 1 Safety Goggles are always to be worn when carry out the following operations – Chipping and ALL Machining operations: Grinding, Milling, Turning, Drilling and Shaping. Goggles must be worn during cleaning down and in correct position over the eye prior to switching on machine coolant.
  •  Students are not to use any machinery without the permission of the instructor. At no time must student operate machinery without an instructor being present.
  •  All safety/protection devices including machine guards, drill guards, safety trips, emergency stops/pushes are to be proved working prior to any machines being used.
  •  Students are not to distract any other student operating machinery.
  •  Unattended machinery is always to be switched off and fully isolated at the power source.
  •  Tool boxes are to be checked when issued and signed for and to be in a good state of repair. Report all defects to instructor.
  •  Tools and tool boxes are to be kept clear of gangways, stowed on or under benches as directed by the instructor.
  •   Tools are not be used for purposes other than those for which they are designed.
  •  No tools are to be removed from Workshops.
  •  All accidents are to be reported immediately to the instructor.
  •  All working areas are to be cleaned up approximately 5 minutes before Secure. All gashes are to be ditched in the receptacles provided and all machines to be brushed down of all swarf and filings.
  •  Scribing block toes are to be kept turned down.
  •  Chuck keys are never to be left in the machine chuck.
  •  Machines/drills are to be isolated at the power source by tag-out before maintenance is carried out.
  •   Machines/drills are to be isolated at the power source before any adjustments are carried out.
  •  Tools are not to be placed on sliding surfaces or work table of machine tools.
Note:
Failure to comply with the above orders may result in disciplinary action being taken.
